Our Story
In 2012, Judge Kim Brown was first elected to serve as a judge of the Franklin County Common Pleas Court, General Division.
Judge Brown grew up in a working-class family in Eastern Ohio. At age 17, she enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve and spent most of her summers during college on active duty. She served in Operation Desert Storm from January to June 1991.
Judge Brown moved to Franklin County in 1987 to attend Otterbein College where she graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science/Pre-Law. After graduating second in her class at Capital University Law School in 1995, Judge Brown began her legal career at the law firm of Bricker & Eckler, LLP. She became a Partner in 2003, practicing primarily in the fields of construction litigation, eminent domain, annexation, and medical malpractice.
In January 2013, Judge Brown began her service as a judge. She is the Court’s Administrative Judge for 2024, has served as the Court’s Presiding Judge, and has chaired the Court’s Technology and Veterans’ Services Committees. She has served as a Board Member of the Franklin County Automatic Data Processing Board. She is a member of the American Legion, the Columbus Bar Association, the Ohio Common Pleas Court Judges Association, and the Women Lawyers of Franklin County. She has served as Vice Chair of the Ohio State Bar Association’s Judicial Administration & Legal Reform Committee and is a Board Member of LifeCare Alliance.
Judge Brown lives in downtown Columbus with her husband, Johnny, and their rescue dog, Havoc.
